I had a great day out with my friend wandering around the Seven Sisters Country Park before ending up at the Coastguard Cottages at Cuckmere Haven.

I did get home last night at around 10:15 only to find an email from Worthing Camera Club asking whether I was available for tonight (Tuesday, 14th) after their scheduled speaker dropped out. I'm happy to say that I am indeed available and looking forward to returning to my old camera club and delivering my talk to them.

I always enjoy doing this wherever I am but Steyning is fairly central in location to the area I cover between Arundel and Devil's Dyke and the photographers should know all of the places I talk about, if not the history of them.

2019 has been an interesting year for me on the photographic front. I started delivering talks on the folklore, mythology, and history of the South Downs between Arundel and Devil's Dyke, taken from my many walks through this area to various interest groups ranging from the U3A to Camera Clubs. These have been very well attended with some excellent positive feedback. Some people have even attended more than once.

I also moved into a small space at The Studio at the Lido selling my prints and canvases. There are five of us in total, all local artists and crafters offering different things and taking it in turns to work the desk. It's going very well, at the moment, which is helped by us all being happy to sell for each other rather than just concentrating on our own stuff. It's very much a cooperative effort which makes it a real joy to be there.

I think that is enough for now so all that leaves me to do is wish you all a very happy and prosperous New Year.

I wasn't doing any photography myself but had a nice change of pace providing the printing and getting the photographs prepared for the returning passengers to buy.

I was also fortunate enough to be able to take one of the tours. I can honestly say that I am terrified of both heights and flying so I was more than a little apprehensive before boarding. I think that the best way I can describe the experience is to liken it to being on a genteel fairground ride with manners and it is definitely something I would be happy to do again.

The photographs I took are not that good due to shooting through a window and also being to much in awe of the sight to concentrate on my camera settings. I think I will manage a better job next time.

A great group of talented musicians who specialize in heavy rock covers including Metallica, Black Sabbath, Dio, amongst many others during an approximately two hour set. Although based in Eastbourne, they do travel around Sussex so if you hear of them playing near you, please go along and check them out if you want a rocking good night!

Worthing, the other day. The idea is that my friend and I intend to walk the South Downs Way during the summer but his feet have caused him problems for several years now. He has recently invested in new boots from America and specialized insteps so now we are walking regularly to test his limits. The aim is to get him up to 10-12 miles without discomfort; so far so good!

This time, our walk took us along the beach at Ferring, stopping for an excellent lunch at the Bluebird Cafe. The weather was pleasantly bright with patchy clouds closing in which caused it to get a little cold when obscuring the sun. We did manage to get a few good pictures though.

Needless to say, that as usual, I discovered the water temperature of the sea is slightly warmer than that of the surrounding air. I really must learn to pay more attention as to what the waves are doing rather than concentrate on getting 'that' photo. Still, I dried out soon enough although it was a tad uncomfortable for a while.

I seem to have been visiting quite a few churches recently which has been very enjoyable and a relaxing change of pace. We are very lucky here in Sussex with a heavy Saxon and Norman influence on religion in these parts, leading to some wonderful archetectural styles on these centuries old buildings. Most are still complete and in regular use like St. Mary's (above) in Sompting with its Saxon tower and original Rheinish Helm roof, the only surviving example in England.

I was asked to go along and photograph their VIP customers and do one or two promotional shots for them which should have lasted around two hours from arriving at the course at midday. With the arrival of the heavy rain, I decided to stay around in the dry instead, taking pictures of racegoers as they played on the Casino's 'How to Play' tables, hosted by Paul, Anna, Martin, and Mel. This worked well for all concerned as Genting got more pictures than they would normally have got for the time I was hired and I got to enjoy a very nice day at the races with some old friends whom I hadn't had much chance to see since I left working with them. It was also a good chance to meet their new General Manager, Simon Howe, who takes over from Chris Webb from Monday. I would like to take this opportunity to wish him well for the future and hope he enjoys his stay in Brighton.

The format is that each member can enter up to three images spread between five subjects (Landscape, Portrait, Monochrome, Natural History, and General). There were 73 entries altogether and the standards were very high.

I won the title for Best Landscape with "Watching the Sunset";

I also won the award for Best Portrait with "Fiona" which also went on to win the title of Best Image of the Night.

That means I have at least three trophies for my cabinet this year and these results bode well for the forthcoming annual print competition in a couple of weeks.

I would publicly like to thank the people at St. Just in Roseland who lit up the church for us at night allowing me to take some remarkable photos. It really is an amazing place to visit although I do recommend doing so when the tide is in for the best view.
